City Form Lab is hiring! December 29, 2011

The City Form Lab is hiring! We are currently looking to fill the following three positions:

POST-DOCTORAL SCHOLAR
A two-year PostDoc will investigate the spatial structure and commercial activity patterns of informal settlements. The candidate is expected to engage in empirical work in documenting and analyzing the urban form and economic geography of informal settlements, working with one or more cities over two years.  One year of the postDoc will be spent at MIT in Cambridge, one year at SUTD in Singapore. The candidate is also expected to partially engage in other projects of the City Form Lab and do part-time teaching at SUTD. The position will commence in September 2012. Candidates are expected to hold a PhD in urban planning, architecture, geography or related fields, have prior research experience, and demonstrate interest in the topic. Interested applicants should email a cover letter and CV to prof. Sevtsuk: andres_sevtsuk[at]sutd.edu.sg

TWO RESEARCH ASSISTANTS
We are hiring two full- or part-time research assistants to investigate the relationship between urban form, retail location patterns and pedestrian activity in Singapore and Los Angeles, CA. The researchers will empirically study selected areas of both cities, analyzing how various aspects of urban density, accessibility and building typologies relate to the distribution of street commerce and walking activity. Candidates are expected to have a background in architecture, urban design, or urban planning; have GIS and design software skills, and demonstrate an interest in urban design. The successful candidates will work at the City Form Lab at SUTD in Singapore. The positions can start as soon as February 2012, but applications are also welcomed beyond that date. To apply, please email a letter of interest, a CV, and desirably a portfolio of design work to prof. Sevtsuk: andres_sevtsuk[at]sutd.edu.sg
